Hemorrhoid Grades
Hemorrhoid Grades Tips
When it comes to diagnosing internal hemorrhoids, there are hemorrhoid grades to follow. These
guidelines offer you a way to know how bad your piles are and if you need to see your doctor. Most doctors find
hemorrhoids very normal and will not need to see you for a course of treatment.
You will be advised to go to the local drug store to search for relief. Then there are the cases
when your hemorrhoids are so bad that they require medical attention and possibly surgery. You will need to know
what to look for when it comes to the possible outcomes.
Grade One
When it comes to hemorrhoid grades, grade one is nothing.
This is your typical internal pile where the swelling is confined to the rectum and does not protrude from the anus
at any time. This type of hemorrhoid issue can be so elusive that you may not know you even have them. For those
who do get some symptoms, bleeding is the most common.
Grade one hemorrhoids rarely cause any pain or discomfort at all. Treatment is not really needed
to minimize symptoms, but a stool softener can help you to pass bowel movements easier and keep you from further
irritating the area. If you find that you are having some bleeding, you can choose to see your doctor. Many people
will use a suppository to keep the piles from swelling and reduce current inflammation.
Grade Two
As you travel down the hemorrhoid grades, you will know you hit grade
two when you feel the piles protrude from the anal opening. This is usually only when you are straining or having a
bowel movement. The hemorrhoids will protrude from the anus and then spontaneously retract back in by themselves.
They will not need any help or take any effort.
The best course of treatment for this type of hemorrhoid is to use suppositories to reduce the
swelling, a stool softener to make stool easy to pass, and to drink plenty of water. Bleeding and some discomfort,
especially when the hemorrhoids are out of the rectal cavity, are normal. You may find that these leak mucus that
causes itching as well. If the suppositories are not enough, you can also use an external cream to help.
Grades Three And Four
The most severe hemorrhoid grades are the last two, numbers three and four. Grade three is when
the hemorrhoid tissue is protruding from the anus and will not go back in without manual help. This means that you
must actually use your finger to get the piles back into the rectal cavity. This type of hemorrhoid tends to be
quite painful and require medication or surgical intervention.
Grade four is when there is a blood clot, known as a thrombosis in the swollen hemorrhoidal
tissue. Strangulation is very painful for most people and can require surgery to fix the problem. Both grades will
have bleeding associated with them and may need medical intervention to cure.
