Hemorrhoid Pain
Why Hemorrhoid Pain?
Hemorrhoid pain is probably one of the most annoying types of pain as it takes on many forms. It
is not something you can simply take a pain reliever for given where it is located and why it is happening.
Swelling of veins in the rectum is the cause for the severe discomfort that hemorrhoids are all about.
Accompanied with this pain comes burning, itching, and a discomfort that rivals no other. Not
only do hemorrhoids hurt physically, they hurt mentally as well. Thank goodness there are several over the counter
medications one can use to help and fix the problem.
The Itching Factor
Itching of the affected area accounts for a lot of the pain one feels when they have
hemorrhoids. The cause of the itching can vary but is usually due to excessive cleaning due to drainage, excessive
straining, and the mucus draining from the hemorrhoids themselves. As the pressure increases in the tissue
surrounding the area, the inflammation gets worse. This causes the skin to become thin and leak.
Itching then can become maddening. It can be hard to leave the affected area alone as it very
uncomfortable. This can be very embarrassing and maddening if you need to be out in public. To get rid of the
incessant itching that can cause a huge amount of pain, you can use many of the over the counter remedies at your
disposal.
Creams can help you to stop the itching if you apply them to the rectum on the outer rim. These
creams need to be applied as directed and may require you use other methods if it is not enough. Pads are wonderful
when you are experiencing leaking with your symptoms as they offer instant relief and provide a place for drainage
to go so you are not as uncomfortable. Suppositories offer the most long lasting relief and not only stop external
and internal itching, but reduce swelling that is the main cause of the problem.
Natural Ways To Reduce Hemorrhoid Pain
Not all methods of relief have to be medicinal. You can do many things for yourself naturally to
help relieve your hemorrhoid pain and suffering. Soaking your rectal area
in hot water with witch hazel can really help to reduce the pain and swelling associated with hemorrhoids.
Another way to control hemorrhoid pain is to use an air doughnut when
you have to do any prolonged sitting. This is a ring with the center cut out. It allows the pressure to be off the
rectum, reducing the swelling of your piles. Ice packs can also allow you to reduce the swelling when you are
planning to be home.
A few ways to keep your bowels from causing a reoccurrence of hemorrhoids is to drink lots of
water, eat a low fat and high fiber diet, and use a stool softener when needed. Hemorrhoid pain can be greatly
reduced when you are not straining over and over with hard stools. Also be sure to not sit or stand for too long a
period of time as this can allow more blood to pool in the already tender area.
