Hemorrhoid Surgeries Advice

When you are suffering regularly from hemorrhoids, hemorrhoids surgeries are the only real options to consider. You may feel overwhelmed at the information on the Internet, your doctor’s office, and in general. It can get confusing at what is best for you and your problem.

You will want to ask yourself what type of treatment you really need. Actual surgery is mostly used for the extreme cases today that include either extremely large hemorrhoids or many, many small ones causing impaction. There are other very effective surgical treatments on the market now for hemorrhoids that can really help and stop reoccurring issues.

Rubber Band Ligation

Rubber band ligation is one of the most effective hemorrhoid surgeries. It uses a constricting device to cut the blood supply off to the actual piles. This is used to successfully treat second degree hemorrhoids that are chronic. Most people are successful with home and over the counter remedies when they have hemorrhoids of this type. There are other people find that they either cannot get rid of them at all or that they keep coming back.

The rubber band ligation procedure offers a more permanent solution. The patient is given pain relievers, placed on the left side, and a scope is placed in the rectum. Bands are then placed on each individual hemorrhoid till they are all banded. There is not usually any anesthesia given, although a local can be given to control the pain after the procedure is done.

Infrared Photocoagulation

Infrared photocoagulation or simply coagulation therapy is one of the other common hemorrhoid surgeries that fix both small and medium hemorrhoids. The point of the procedure is to use an infrared beam of light to destroy the piles. This beam creates scarring on the anal wall that cuts the blood off to the hemorrhoids. This scarring also will toughen the wall so that new hemorrhoids will not form.

One downfall to this treatment option is that only one hemorrhoid at a time can be treated. You get treatment every ten to fourteen days post the last procedure. You can expect rectal bleeding about a week after the surgery. This is due to the hemorrhoid falling off. You will only need to use over the counter pain relievers with anti-inflammatory properties for pain relief and actually may find a sitz bath to be more effective.

Hemorrhoidectomy

Out of all hemorrhoid surgeries, the hemorrhoidectomy is the most effective at long term treatment. This is a procedure that actually cuts the piles off. You will have to actually either check into day surgery or the hospital for this procedure and could even be asked to spend the night.

You can expect some pain and will need to use prescription pain medications for at least a few days post surgery. You can expect some bleeding post op, and you will want to use home remedies to help with pain and discomfort. Sitz baths and ice packs are both quite effective treatment options after your surgery is over.
