Hemorrhoid treatments come in many forms. There are medical interventions for those who have severe suffering and then there are over the counter remedies that help the mild to moderate cases. There are even remedies to help you not only get rid of persistent hemorrhoids, but prevent them from returning as well. There are many reasons that hemorrhoids occur, finding out what is the reason for you can enable you to prevent the problem from coming back again and again. There is no reason to have to suffer the pain and embarrassment that hemorrhoids can cause. Checking Your Dietary HabitsDiet can greatly affect how often and if you get problems with piles. If you are not usually eating high fiber foods or not enough water, you can expect that you will get a few bouts of hemorrhoids now and again. This is due to the colon retaining matter much longer than it should. Constipation is the result. When you get backed up you will not be able to use the bathroom as easily as you normally due. This will make you strain when you do finally get relief. Straining is one of the most common causes of hemorrhoids. The best way to prevent constipation and the piles associated with it is to make sure to eat plenty of leafy green vegetables and drink at least six to eight glasses of water per day. The Hot Sitz Bath When you are looking at effective hemorrhoid treatments, you will want to consider the obvious first. The sitz bath is a hot bath of a few inches of water. It is to be done about 3-4 times per day and after bowel movements. This reduces the swelling and cleanses the rectum. One of the best ways to aid in natural inflammation issues is to add witch hazel to the bath. This has a cooling effect that helps the pain, itching, and swelling associated with hemorrhoids. The water should only be about two to three inches and as hot as you can stand it. They great thing about a sitz bath is that it is non-medicated so you can do it as much as you like to get relief. Softening Your Stools One of the most popular preventative hemorrhoid treatments on the market are stool softeners. Some forms of softeners are also laxatives and will force you to have a bowel movement. This may not be what you want each and every time. While helping you to initially relieve constipation that could be causing your piles, you would not want to use a laxative regularly. A stool softener just helps you avoid constipation so you can be more regular. This allows you to avoid the constipation that causes hemorrhoids. If at any time you experience runny stools or severe cramping, stop taking the softener and consult a physician. Sitting To Avoid Piles Often people experience bad hemorrhoids due to prolonged sitting. This can include those who spend a lot of time on the computer or if you work in an office. Hemorrhoid treatments that are also preventative also include sitting restrictions. Many doctors will ask you to not sit for long periods unless you are sitting an air ring. The air ring, also called a doughnut, relieves the pressure off of your rectum and reduces the risk of irritating or giving you hemorrhoids. Read more hemorrhoids related articles here
